3.1 Energy Management

1756370190656399.pngTo pursue the goal of building a green energy homeland, fulfill international carbon reduction commitments, and respond to the rapid changes and challenges in domestic and international political, economic, and energy environments, the government has promoted new energy policies and initiated an energy transformation to drive the development of an independent green energy industry. As global warming accelerates, how to balance environmental protection with energy production has clearly become a significant issue around the world, and it has also underscored the importance of energy transition.

Based on its social responsibility and sustainable management objectives, CT upholds the concepts of energy conservation and carbon reduction, and all employees work together to promote an international standard energy management system and establish energy policies to encourage compliance.

3.1.1 Establishment of Management System

In the second half of 2021, CT established an ISO 50001 energy management system at its Taoyuan Plant, and each year it has been verified by a third party certification body.

Through an energy equipment inventory, the energy consumption proportions of each system at the Taoyuan Plant were analyzed, from the air conditioning systems to the lighting equipment, and based on the evaluation results of the prioritized improvement items, the Company’s financial, operational, and business conditions, the selection of energy efficient technologies, and the feasibility of renewable energy use were considered item by item. The sequence for improving the energy efficiency of Company equipment was scheduled, an energy improvement action plan was drafted, and energy management targets for the following year were set accordingly.

The reasons for the differences between the energy consumption proportions of each system at the CT Taoyuan Plant in 2024 and those in 2023 are as follows:

In 2024, the Taoyuan Plant’s production capacity was lower compared to 2023. By replacing outdated inplant equipment and purchasing new equipment with lower power requirements, overall energy usage decreased, resulting in smaller differences in energy consumption proportions across the various systems. In the future, we will continue to measure data and track the energy consumption of each item to identify areas requiring improvement.

The primary energy sources used by the plants include purchased electricity and nonrenewable fuels (including liquefied petroleum gas, diesel, and electricity), with no use of renewable electricity or renewable fuels. According to statistical calculations, the energy consumption of the three plants in 2024 was 33771.67 GJ, representing a 24.8 % decrease compared to 2023.

3.1.2 Implementation of Energy Saving Measures

1. Promote energy conservation awareness among employees

Conduct energy conservation awareness sessions for all company personnel. Unplug equipment that will not be used for a long time, and turn off lights and air conditioning when leaving office areas or restrooms.

2. Promote renewable energy power generation equipment

In addition to purchasing renewable energy, solar panel power generation systems have been installed at all plants, generating renewable energy that is zero carbon and free of pollution, thereby indirectly helping to reduce GHG emissions across Taiwan. Additionally, we have also participated in the supply chain for manufacturing wind power generation equipment, offering the people of Taiwan more renewable energy options.

Facing continuously growing production capacity, CT noticed that the energy at its plants was not being fully utilized for production. For this reason, the Company began updating its equipment, gradually phasing out old welding machines and replacing them with models that save energy and increase production capacity. Regular maintenance is performed on all equipment in the administrative buildings of each plant, for example, copiers, computers, air conditioners, and water dispensers, and the lighting tubes in the buildings are gradually being replaced with LED tubes to reduce electricity waste and make more meaningful use of energy.

3. In-plant Equipment

Item

Implementation

Newly Purchased Electric Forklift

Over the past two years, the Yunlin Plant   purchased two electric forklifts, which have a smaller environmental impact   than diesel forklifts because they do not emit exhaust and are more   environmentally friendly. They also feature higher energy efficiency and   conversion efficiency, providing superior steering performance and load   handling stability. In addition, electric forklifts have longer operating   times and superior battery life.

Portable Circumferential Milling Machine

(Automated Edge Milling Machine)

Through a highly efficient automated control   system, precise load management, and highprecision machining characteristics, production   efficiency is improved and energy consumption is reduced, thereby achieving   lower carbon emissions.

Initiate the Machinery and Equipment   Replacement Plan

ž   All welding machines have been replaced with   Germany’s top-grade EWM welding   machines, improving welding efficiency and reducing energy   consumption. Traditional flame cutting machines commonly used for steel plate   processing require combustion of gas or acetylene, which not only consumes   energy but also causes air pollution and carbon emissions. In addition, the   edges produced by flame cutting may not be smooth. Compared with traditional   flame cutting machines, the CNC   flame cutting machine newly purchased by the Company greatly reduces   power consumption and improves production efficiency and machining precision,   achieving significant energy savings.

ž   The on-site 4-axis drilling machine was too old   and was replaced. In 2024, a fully   automatic dual axis drilling machine was purchased. The dual spindle   model has two spindles with completely independent positioning, improving   production efficiency, reducing machine standby time, indirectly lowering   energy consumption and achieving higher energy efficiency for energy   conservation and carbon reduction.

4.      Implementing Green Procurement

When purchasing new machinery or selecting office supplies, we prioritize environmentally friendly options that offer energy-saving and carbon reduction benefits. For example, purchasing lowcarbon equipment with environmental protection or energysaving labels, or purchasing products manufactured by suppliers that reduce packaging waste or have made environmental commitments. Start from the details, implement the concept of sustainability, and reduce environmental impact.

The electricity savings rate target for 2023 was an annual reduction of 1%. An energy management action plan was proposed to replace old water-cooled packaged units with new ones. The old and new model numbers are TC-20M (fixed-frequency) and TCV-20PNX (variable frequency), respectively. Current and temperature differences between the models were measured and compared using a clamp meter. The energy-saving-labelled water-cooled packaged unit TCV-20PNX, with a rated cooling capacity power consumption of 17.1kW and an energy efficiency rating of Level 1, was purchased to improve performance and reduce electricity use. Progress was controlled and tracked according to the action plan to achieve the target.

In 2024, the water cooled packaged unit replacement was carried out, with green procurement costs of NTD 405 thousand, accounting for 0.8 % in 2024. No green procurement was conducted in 2023, representing a 0.8 % increase compared to 2023.
